Kim, Tae Hoon. ¡°A Diachronic Study of the Korean Translations Styles on The Waste Land.¡± Studies in English Language & Literature 47.1 (2021): 21-42. This study seeks to compare and examine Korean translation styles of The Waste Land. Eliot uses numerous quotations and various literary techniques in The Waste Land to deliver his message to readers. Eliot reveals his own style of writing, which should be correctly translated as well. To compare Korean translation styles, translated books which were published from the 1950s to the 2010s are collected and investigated. As a result, most Korean translations did not show much difference in translation styles from early translations. However, the characteristics of the translators¡¯ styles were revealed. Translators tried to convey poetic meaning through words and sentences that readers living in that era could understand. For readability of readers, translators should use expressions and words which are used in the era of translation. (Jeonju University)
